I Don't Have a Problem VHS

Teenagers typically believe they are immune to the problem of serious drug abuse. This 28-minute video is a close-up look at one teen's descent into addiction, offering powerful insight into the nature of the process and helping students begin to understand just how vulnerable they are. For grades 7-12. Danny smoked his first joint as a freshman and by junior year had come to rely on pot as the instant solution to failing grades and contentious disputes with his stepdad. His girlfriend and best friend also smoked pot, but while his girlfriend made up her mind to quit, his best friend induced Danny to try cocaine. Rebutting Danny's protest that he was in enough trouble already at school and at home, his best friend asked him, "Then what difference does it make?" Although Danny assured his girlfriend that he did not have a problem, his deepening obsession with cocaine worried her and she tried to help him. His addiction intensified, and he stole from his mother's ATM account. Realizing at last what had happened, his mother confronted him about his addiction. After spending the summer at an addiction treatment center, Danny returned to school and was immediately invited by his best friend to party. The program ends on the question of how Danny will cope with the demands of recovery. A teacher's guide is included. Awards: Bronze, Telly Awards; Honorable Mention, Columbus International Film and Video Festival
