Facilitating Student Support Groups (K-12)Young people constantly face stressful decisions regarding drug use, sexuality, family problems, and violence. More and more students are suspended or expelled from school for alcohol, tobacco, or other drug use and for violent outbursts. More than 30% of all students come from families affected by alcoholism or other drug abuse. Personal problems become school problems when issues affect a student's academic success, health, and well-being. In order to change behaviors and cope with difficulties, young people need a place to feel safe; a place where labels don't matter, where they find a caring adult they trust, and where they learn coping skills. School-based support groups provide this environment. Facilitating Student Support Groups (K-12) is an intensive, experiential, "full service" seminar that will help you gain an understanding and enthusiasm for the support group process. You will leave this training armed with the confidence, tools, skills, and inspiration to run successful support groups.
